Challenges (game modes)
Challenges are rule variations you unlock and can play with each Genetic. Completing a challenge with all possible genetics shows a Golden Tick in the UI (patch 0.9.2).

Public Playtest 2 (PP2) statistics
Data shared by the team on Discord (after PP2 ended):
- 170,000+ players. - 3,680,906 runs completed (under 3% "beat the island" in the lore sense). - 2,607,792 deaths. - Average playtime: 4h 11min. - Most picked evolutions: Saliva, More Mass, Stomach, Regenerative Tissue, Muscular Tissue. - Least picked evolutions: Omnivore, More Legs, Pistol Pincer, Stoner, Detachable Tail.
- Omnivore still had ~79% pick rate when offered.
- 450 players earned the Challenger Crab role (victory at max difficulty at that time). - 100% PP2: first player to complete max difficulty with each genetic and all challenges with each genetic (including Ice Age and WWW with all) was recognised with a special role; the evolution/specialisation spreadsheet (Tin) was cited as a resource used by the community.
